Maintain & Care For Your Hair In Summer
Summer is finally here again, which means UV rays, Chlorine, Salt, Heat & Ultimately… DAMAGE.
It is time to adjust our hair care routine to maximise the lovely gift we were given - our beautiful hair - and look after it the best we can.
Here is everything you will need to know;
Chlorine & Salt.
As much as swimming in pools & oceans is great fun for you on holiday or days off it is not fun for your hair. It will cause dryness in your hair and possibly fading too. The best way to combat and prevent this is using a good mask on your ends to keep them hydrated in between swims and use a good leave in conditioner while swimming to create a barrier between your hair strands and the chlorine & salt.
The most important step is… after you finish your swim use a good deep cleaning shampoo & conditioner and give your scalp a good scrub to remove any build up.
Protect your colour.
The number one problem when it comes to your colour in the summer is fading. Wearing a hat can help prevent the sun rays fading your colour and using a good leave in conditioner will help create a barrier to protect your hair and keep it in the best condition you can.
Regular Trims.
Regular trims are essential for summertime to prevent split ends and keep your hair looking healthy and sleek instead of dry, frizzy and dull. We recommend every 6-8 weeks… You don’t have to have a large amount cut off, just a little trim will do the world of good for your hair.
Minimise Heat Styling.
When overusing heat on your hair it will over time dry it out and cause damage but during the summer, with everything else happening to your hair the damage will happen A LOT quicker. As much as you will want to style your hair with heat to combat humidity and frizz, you won’t be doing your hair any favours. You are better off sticking to slick back hair styles, loose plaits or just rocking your natural style and if you really need to use heat make sure you use a good heat protectant and leave in conditioner first for maximum protection.
HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE.
The last and most important step, hydration will be your BEST friend during the summer. If you keep your hair hydrated it will reward you with less frizz, minimal damage and easier styling. Using a good hair mask 1-2 times a week (at least) will keep it refreshed and healthy.
